Born in Yorkshire, Richard always had a flair for art, winning his first art competition aged just 14 and passing his A level aged 16. After graduating and with a passion to travel, he initially pursued a career as an engineering and design consultant, holding various managerial roles with major international companies, residing primarily in the Middle East. An artisan at heart, Richard returned to Commercial Art in 2003, initially as a semi-professional artist, becoming full time in 2018. The gallery was conceived during Lockdown, opened in 2021 and his engineering and project management experi-ence drives all technical, administrative and organisational as-pects. Richard has extensively developed his own personal style and technique throughout his career and creates all oil paintings entirely using a knife, often in a limited colour palette and mix-ing only on the canvas. He defines his artwork style as being contemporary realism and the technique he employs is a form of segmented alla prima. His figurative compositions are influ-enced and inspired by the realism and romanticism of his fa-vourite post renaissance classical Masters and their timeless, romantic masterpieces. He is a multi-award winning artist and has exhibited through-out the UK and Worldwide.
